Dear Wife

I wrote you a fiew lines yesterday but I will write some to day in answer to your letter that you wrote the 15th and 18th of May. I was verry glad to hear from you once more but you are all about crazy with trouble. I heard of Jacobs death the 24th of May. It was verry sad news for us all. I heard the sad news in the morning and shortly after we was drawn in line of battle and marched in line most all day expecting every minuet to fight but the cavelry drove the enemy all day. You cant think how I felt. It was a verry warm day and it is a hard way to march throu woods and over fences through fields of wheat but I cept up good courage and went through. You stated in your letter that you heard I was dead and in the Army of the Potomac. You musent believe eney rumors. There is alwais a great meney stories in times like these. We are not in the Army of the Potomac and I dont want to go there nor I am not dead nor sick. Verry thankfull for that but I am tierd. I feele as thou I neaded some rest as we lay here yesterday and to day. We march in the morning at day light. We havent done eney verry hard fighting yet. I think we must do some harder fighting here than we have done but we may ceep driveing the rebs and do much hard fighting. I hope you have got some of my letters so you will write to me. You sead you dident think you could write untill you heard from me. I have writen every chance I had and shal continue to do so and a letter from you in a time like this chears me up a good deal. I dont know when I will have an opportunity to send another letter but we have a chance most every weak. The cars run to Ackworth now so we can get supplies and mail without much trouble. I hope the war will close this fall. I some think it will. The weather is verry warm here in Georgia. We are getting pretty well south now. How I would like to see you and the children. I hope you are all well. Our folks will have more troubel now than ever but we are not alone in this troubel. I must close for this time. Write often as you can and I will do the same. My love to you. Good buy.
