My Dear Wife
I thought I would write a fiew lines to you to let you know that I am well and where I am. Friday morning we croosed the river at Edwards Ferry and marched up the river and last knight we camped within 5 miles of Harpers Ferry two miles from Petersburg. This morning we took the back track three miles and then took the road to Fredrick. We are in a pleasent grove one mine from the citty. We are now verry near where we were 9 months ago. Dear Charlotte we have had a long hard march since we left Aquia Creek and it haint over with yet. I think we will march again tomorrow but I cant tel where but I suppose to drive the rebels out of Maryland and Pa. I suppose we have got a new commander. I guess they was afraid Hooker would close the war to quick. I think they will have Mceleclen back again before long. I wrote two letters last weak and I am glad I can send this so as to let you know where I am. I know you wory a great deal about me now as the army is moveing. I thought when we started we would have to fight to day as Sundays is the fighting day but the armies will meet before long and there will be another bloodey time. I dont dread the fight half as mouch as I do the march when it is so hot and we have got to march early and late and the days are so long. We have had plenty of rations all the way untill to day. The teams dident come up last knight and they haint here yet. We are out of rations. I havent eat but verry little to day but the team will come in to knight and then we will get some rations. I would like to sit down to a good meal now or if it wasent verry good I think I could make good time. I think it has ben a good thing that the rebels went up in Pennsylvania. I think it will streanthen the Army of the Potomac. I am willing to endure eneything if it will onely put down the rebelion. I havent got time to write eney more this time. It is most knight and I have got to write a letter for Jim Dore. Write often and write all the news. If we stay here two or three days I will write againe. I send my love to you and all.
