Dear Wife

We got a mail to day and I received yours of the 25 August. I was glad to hear from you once more and that you were well but sorry to hear that Mother was hurt. I hope she will get along but I know if she gives up and says she is sick that she is verry sick. You seamed to have on a lonesome streak when you wrote. You have good reasons to feel so but you must ceep up good courage. I am well and fat as a bear but our boys are dying off fast. Sergt Spoor died the 24 of August in hospittle at Nashville of tifoid fever. He left us about a month before he died. We have got to move tomorrow to the south east side of the city. This army is in fine spirits. I think much better than the Army of the Potomac. I havent time to write eney more this time. I hope I get another letter the next mail. Write often and I will write again as soon as we get setteld. Good buy.

Chas Engle
