Dear Charlotte

I will visit with you a little while this evening and informe you that I am well. I received yours of the 18th day before yesterday. Was verry glad to hear from you and that you were all well. I have got to write this evening. I dont have time to write days. We moved day before yesterday and we are building a fort. We have got to work every day. We have hot days but it is quite cool nights here on the river. It is foggy every morning and that makes it cold. We have got to work here but I would reather do that than to went with Sherman. Our corps was luckey once but we may have some hard fighting here. We cant tell but we will have breastworks to fight behind. We have built a great meney breastworks and never fought but one battle behind works yet. One of the recruits was buried to day. He had the tyfoid fever. It was Howerd from Hayleton. He was a large and tough man never sick before and a good soldier. He was wounded at Pine Nob. It was slight but his leg was verry sore and he was verry lame but he wouldent go to the hospittle. He hobeld along the best he could. Charlie Kipp is sick and has ben for some time. He is to be sent to the hospittle tomorrow. I am afraid it will go hard with him. We was musterd to day. Our officers think we will get pay soone. Charlotte what does the people in our town say about reelecting Lincoln. What does your pa think about it and Paul and father. I shall vote for old Abe if I have a chance but the Mcclelen party are getting so strong I dont know but they will elect their man. If Lincoln puts off the draft he will stand a poor sight among the soldiers. I dont know how it will go. I am afraid it will turn out as much in the Souths favor as ours. The copperheads are getting to be a strong party and that is all that ceeps up this war. If the north was united this war wouldent last long. I hope this will find you all enjoying good health. I am tierd and sleepy so I guess I will close . I will write again soone. Excuse this short letter. I will try and do better next time. My love to you. Good buy dear Charlotte.

Charles Engle
