Dear Charlotte

This is a beautifull morning and I will visit with you in our way talking. The birds are singing verry sweetly. They have no wars. There are to peaceable. I received your kind letter of the first Sadurday. I was glad to hear you were all well. I am enjoying good health but I haint as fleshey as I was a while ago. I dont have eney appetite to eat. I dont eat as much in a day as I did at one meal when I was home but there is a good cause for that. I dont exercise enough. I generly feele the best on a march. I can eat and sleep in most eney mudhole and come out all right in the morning. I almost believe we will stay on the road this sumer. It looks more like it now than it has yet. Dont wory about that for I guess we will stay here a while. You sold the old cow. You must get another as soone as you can and let John D live on cows milk if he likes it so well. You say Matie hasent forgotten me yet. I am afraid she will before my time is out if I have to stay my time out. There is a famely lives here not more than five roods from my tent. They have got two little girls. The youngest is about Maties age. They are smart and hansome. I cant help but think of Matie every time I see them. They are verry mischeavus. You spoke about the time you was fooled when I was home last spring. I couldent think what it was for some time. When I thought what it was I laught out. The boys wanted to know what I was laughing about. I dident tell them. That was a big thing. You thought you had found something nice. We drill once a day squad drill and battalion drill three times a weak. Generl Slocomb is going to leave us. He is coming here to day to deliver his farewell address. I am verry sorry. You neadent put the number of our brigade nor divition on. The name and number of regt and co and Nashville Tenn is enough. They will come through all right. I hope we will get pay soone so I can send you some money. I will close for this time. Write often as you can. The new recruits get lots of letters. It makes the old ones jelous. No more. Good buy. My love to you.
