Dear Charlotte

Your letter of the 12th has just ben received and I will write a short one to you and the last one in North Carolina. The last mail leaves here tomorrow. We will start for the Potomac Monday. There is five corps going. We will go to Richmond and then to Fairfax where we uest to rome and then we have ben around the confederacy. Johnson army is no more and the war is played out. We went out 15 miles the 25th. I suppose we started for Johnson but he came to terms the same day so we came back to Raleigh to day. We will have a long march. It will take 30 days to go to Washington and then 30 days more to make out all the nessesary papers so it will take untill the first of July to get started from Washington or about that time. I dont think I can write again untill we get to the Potomac so you wont have to look for letters after you get this for a while but you must write often. I will get them when we get to our jurneys end and write all the news. Direct Washington. I think I will see Rastus somewhere up there if he dont get discharged before we get there and I dont think he will. I think they will ceep the enginears a while. There will be plenty of work to do. I sent you 18 dollars in one of my letters. I hope you will get it. I wish I had more to send you but we wont get pay untill we are discharged and then I will have over 300 to bring you. That will help us some but we will have a great deal to buy. There is a great meney things we have got to have. If you nead eney clothes and have money enough to buy them get them. I want you all to look verry nice when I come home. You know I am proud. I will have to close. I have got to go on pickit tomorrow. That is why I wrote this eve. No more. So good buy.
