Dear Wife

I will try and write a fiew lines to you to let you know that I am well and that I received your letter of the 30 day before yesterday. I suppose you are having trouble about our moveing. I dont know when we will march. We may stay here all sumer. I hope we will stay on the road. Every thing is quiet now. There isent as much sines of a move as there was a fiew days ago. The talk now is that the eleventh and twelfth corps are consolidated and is called the first corps and commanded by Hooker. Slocum is to take command at Vicksburgh. I am sorry. I hope it isent so. If it is we will have to take off the star which we have the honer to wear and which we deserve to. We earned it by hard fighting. The twelfth corps is considerd the best corps in the army. If it wasent it wouldent got the star to wear. The weather is pleasent. Apple treas are in blossome. You stated that Evina heard I was dead. I dont know but I will write again but I shant write one thing and think another. I am endangering my life for her as well as myself and she haint eney better than I am. I am fighting for the copperheads rights and liberties as much as I am for myself and familes and then have them do all they can against me and my fellow soldiers. It dont make good feelings but John is like a great meney others. He thinks more of his Demerat party than he does of his country and Evina has to think the same. The new recruits we got are all Demerats and they say all they enlisted for was the bounty. They have got to ceep mum are they will ceach a clip under the ear. I hope the war will be setteld so we can go home next fall. I think it will be. I want to see you verry much. My love to you. Good buy.

Chas E.
