Dear Charlotte

Your letters of the 20th and 23 are at hand. I received one day before yesterday and the other this evening. You stated in the first one that the baby had a hard cold but the next dident say eneything about it so he must be better again. I hope so. I am afraid he will have the dipthria. Your letters found me well and I hope you are all well and enjoying yourselves. The weather is warm and pleasent. Capt Davis was here the other day. He went up to Chatanooga with a lot of workman. There was some more workmen went up to to day. That glass eyed Platt was amunst them. They stopt here all the forenoone. Platt sead he was on Westhill to a watch meating but I couldent find out much by him. I guess he is a prety hard boy. There is some more coming tomorrow. I heard John Latin was coming. You want to send me a box but I dont want it. I can get along just as well without it. If I could have got one when we was up front I would liked it but we draw good soft bread and more than we can eat and we have all the suger and coffee we want and more to and plenty of meat so I think it useless to send a box. I would like some socks but if you dont have a chance to send them by someone I can get along verry well without them. It cost more to send things way down here than they are worth. Every thing is so high that my wages wont much more than support you. I want you and the children to have what you need. You must do as you think best about ceeping Johns place. I cand tell what is the best to do. I am glad you have got the check all safe. I guess you get the most of my letters and I guess I get all yours. Some of boys havent had but one letter since we have ben in Allabama. If I dident get eney more letters I would be homesick shure. You say you begin to have a little better courage than you have had. I am glad to hear you say so. That is the best way to get along. If I hadent had the best of courage I would ben dead long ago. Discouraged soldiers are poore ones. We have got to put up with every thing that comes and make the best of it. I hope we never will have to go where the bullets whiz again. We have done our share of fighting. I got the stamps and pen. I will close for this time. So good buy.
